The KAI Robot Control (KRC) Module was developed at the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) under the supervision of Professor Jong Hwan Kim. Professor Jong Hwan Kim is commonly know as the founder of Robot Soccer, he was a driving force in the creation of the Federation of International Robosoccer Association, commonly known as FIRA.

The KRC is based around an Atmel ATMega128 mcu - this is a fast RISC micro with 128 kBytes of FLASH for User Programs. The KRC can be programmed in one of two ways. Supplied with the KRC is a Flow-Chart based GUI programming environment. This is excellent for beginners as it teaches the fundamentals of developing flowcharts - this highlights the decision making processes and sequential operation of any program. For advanced users the KRC can be programmed in Assembly Language or C. More info on programming the KRC can be found in the Programming Info section.

KAIST to present its rideable robot 'HuboFx-1'



KAIST(Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) team led by professor Oh Jun-ho presented its rideable robot 'HuboFx-1' that was unveiled in November 2005.

The HuboFx-1 is 174cm tall at 150kg and can carry up to 100kg of person or luggage at the average walking speed of ordinary person. Equipped with six joints, its legs allow the robot to move freely around all directions(front and rear, left and right) by using its control stick.

'SpinPoint M5' hard disk drive series : Samsung



Samsung Electronics announced its new 160GB hard drive using 2.5” disks, 'SpinPoint M5 series'. Capacity of the single-disk platform ranges between 60 and 160GB, while a dual-disk model is under development that will provide up to 250GB of storage space.

The SpinPoint M5 series utilizes perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology, and the disk drive design has been optimized to allow ultra-precision adjustment of the head parking ramp position for high-density recording.The weight of the 160GB hard drive has also been reduced by approximately 4% from 98.66g to 94.83g, helping manufacturers to lighten their finished products.

The new SpinPoint M5 hard drives feature a 5,400rpm spin rate, 1.5Gbps SATA interface and 8MB cache memory. PATA models will be added to the lineup in May.Samsung has already shipped test samples of the SpinPoint M5 Series to OEM vendors and plans to begin mass production in mid-April.

  DMBO is a new mobile T-DMB receiver which is able to receive T-DMB signals clearly, even in a moving vehicle. Designed for use with a laptop/desktop computer, the USB interface is in compliance with the Korean Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB) standard. After the DMBO player program is installed on a desktop or laptop, the DMB TV program is enjoyable at once. Boasting a milky-white, compact body which is only 1 cm thick, DMBO is as small as a memory stick. A dim light shines through a translucent spot on the body to indicate the operating state, thus dispensing with the need for an LED lens.

Robotis products are based around the Dynamixel range of "serially controlled servo's.
Robots can be built right out of the box that are autonomous and that can walk around, avoiding objects, listening for your commands. For example, the sound sensor can distinguish between one clap and two, and respond with programmed behavioral changes. Sound and light sensors are built into a special category of servo that also has output and idler wheels.
